Action Details

Windlaw made two changes from the victory over Vale Utd last week with Thornton replacing the injured McInally and Docherty replacing Carmichael in the midfield engine room. Forest had former Windlaw man John Nugent on the bench.

ForestA blustery wind was at Windlaw's back at the start, however nothing could prepare Forest for the green and black tornado that simply blew them off the park within the opening 25 minutes. Windlaw went for the jugular straight from kick-off and McCann fired just over in the first minute. On 3 minutes Windlaw went in front when Eck McCaig brilliantly glanced home an inswinging corner from McCann. On 6 minutes Forest had a decent chance from a free-kick but fired wastefully over. 2 minutes later, Windlaw doubled their lead when skipper Chris Kerr rose like a salmon from a corner and nodded powerfully into the net. A further 2 minutes later, Forest had another close effort with a decent shot, however a minute later Windlaw were out of sight when Eck McCaig controlled well in the box and his parried shot finally dropped into the Forest net like an egg. Kevin McCann then produced a superb fourth in 20 minutes when he fired high into the keeper's top right hand corner from the edge of the box. The five goal salvo ended in 25 minutes when McCann played Alan Nugent clean through with no defender near him and the big striker made no mistake firing home from 10 yards out. 25 minutes gone, 5-0 and you wondered the way Windlaw were playing if double figures was on the cards. No more goals until half-time as Windlaw kept the ball well capping a scintillating 45 minutes.

Half Time: Windlaw 5 Forest 0

ForestThe second half was never going to live up to the first in terms of the tempo as in contest terms, it was over. Windlaw used their three subs and Forest improved and to their credit, never gave in. Forest rattled the bar from 25 yards after an error in the Windlaw defence. Another defensive error saw Windlaw lose their first goal in 500 minutes as a scampering John Lunny was unable to keep out the Forest attacker's shot at an unguarded net. Wullie Thornton then got the goal his enterprising wingplay deserved when Forest defender McCall's attempted passback was parried into Thornton's path by the Forest keeper leaving the diminutive defender with the simple task of tapping into an empty net. In truth the second half never got going at all and performaces like the Windlaw first half one don't come along too often

Full Time: Windlaw 6 Forest 1

Summing-Up: .A stunning Windlaw first half performance annihilated Forest who were caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. It would be wrong to focus on a poor second half performance by Windlaw when the first was so good. Forest never gave in and competed well deserving their goal. Windlaw now have a decent chance of a top three finish on form like this.
