Star Man: John Lunny-the big keeper's return to form was encaptulated by his superb last ditch tackle to prevent a certain Tynecastle goal with the game locked at 1-1.

Action Details

A tight game begins on a rather subdued note as both sides struggle to create any real chances. Windlaw take the lead on 15 minutes through their courageous captain Chris Kerr, who collects a half cleared long throw at the edge of the box and crashes a superb shot in off the underside of the crossbar past a stunned Tynecastle keeper. Tynecastle rally though and Lunny saves well, low down at his left hand post and from a few corners, Tynecastle have good efforts through poor Windlaw marking. Deservedly, Tynecastle equalise on 35, albeit in controversial circumstances. Chris Kerr appears to be caught high in a crunching midfield tackle and the ball breaks kindly for the Tynecastle midfielder who breaks towards the penalty area. His slipped through ball perfectly splits Sinclair and McInally and an angled finish from Tynecastle's forward beats the onrushing John Lunny. Lunny then becomes Windlaw's saviour as a perfectly timed run from just inside the Windlaw half sees Tynecastle's young forward streak clear with only Lunny to beat. The big keeper rushes from his line 25 yards out and brilliantly times his tackle to dispossess the youngster as the ball somehow gets scrambled clear. The save keeps Windlaw on level terms after a fairly poor first half performance.

Half Time: Tynecastle 1 Windlaw 1

From the first whistle of the second half Windlaw take complete control and dominate. The hard working Docherty and Kerr in midfield allow Kevin McCann the freedom to torment Tynecastle and within minutes of the restart McCann has Windlaw infront, easily collecting a poorly judged passback from a Tynecastle defender to round the keeper and tap home. Windlaw grow in confidence and continue to make chances to make the game safe. The best came when Benny Carey was clean through and after unselfishly trying to play in Eck McCaig to finish, the final ball was just outside McCaig's reach and he swipes at fresh air with the goal gaping. The nerves were settled on 70 minutes when Eck McCaig finished from close range after a parried block from the Tynecastle keeper fell to him. With 10 minutes remaining came arguably the goal of the game when McCaig was released down the right wing and completely outpaced his marker before clipping an excellent first time ball to the edge of the box that the waiting Kevin McCann brilliantly despatched into the bottom right hand corner of the keeper's net. The goal capped a fine McCann inspired Windlaw second half showing that the hosts couldn't match, although to be fair, they looked a more depleted side than the one that played so well at Barlia in their 3-1 win in October.

Full Time: Tynecastle 1 Windlaw 4

Summing Up - A much improved second half performance by Windlaw earned them the points. Lunny's save at 1-1 was key as was the hard graft of Docherty and Kerr that allowed McCann the freedom to roam at Tynecastle's back line. McCann's second half showing was excellent and his slide tackling is now at another level. On this form, he is undoubtedly one of the best players in this league. Colin Sinclair deserves a mention for bringing a solidity and maturity to the defence and looks as though he's played there for years which, judging by his age is no real surprise!
