Star Man: No one player stood out in this excellent team performance and it would probably be a bit harsh to single out any one player anyway, so the award goes to the whole team for a performance which was reminiscent of the treble winning side.
Action Details
Windlaw were obviously keen to make amends for the recent bad run of results and enjoy a good start to the game, knocking the ball about well and making Greenbank work hard to get it off them. Windlaw apply early pressure on the Greenbank goal, with the visitors camped in their own half. The home side take the lead with a well worked goal which saw Eck McCaig finish off a fine passing move. Windlaw maintain the pressure and score a second shortly after. A superb defence splitting pass by Allan Dougall sent Kevin McCann clear with only the keeper to beat, however a poor touch ended his chances of a goal before he promptly squared for the on rushing Chris Kerr who drilled his shot low under the keeper. Windlaw were looking comfortable now and probably should have scored a couple more goals before the break, however the score remained the same and Windlaw take a deserved lead at half time
Half Time: Windlaw 2 – 0 Greenbank Utd
The second half started with Greenbank forcing Windlaw onto the back foot for a 10 minute spell, however their pressure and possession did not bring any goals with it. Windlaw took charge of the game again, still playing some lovely football all over the pitch. The home team searched for a 3 rd goal which would have really killed the game, but it was proving elusive as a host of good chances failed to find the back of the net. Windlaw keeper John Lunny was called into action with a stunning finger tip save round the post midway through the first half. The big man was obviously keen to keep a clean sheet on this occasion. Windlaw grabbed the vital 3 rd goal when Benny Carey turned the defender inside out before firing past the on rushing Greenbank keeper. 3-0 and game over. It was the least they deserved for all their fine passing and pressure throughout the game.
Full Time: Windlaw 3-0 Greenbank Utd
Summing Up: This was a very comfortable win with a scoreline which was very flattering to the visitors. Windlaw totally dominated the game against a useful side who had given them a run for their money in previous encounters, however the home team should have had 6 or 7 but after recent results any type of victory is welcome just now. Windlaw were excellent in all aspects of the game: attitude, commitment, discipline and most notably the football they played. The passing was a joy to watch and was reminiscent of the treble winning days. Let's hope we can maintain that and the level of performance for the rest of the season. If we do, we might just be up there challenging for the title.
