Match Report

Strathclyde Saturday Morning League:Division 1
26th November 2005
The Murray
Greenhills Dynamo 3

Windlaw AFC 1
McCaig

Star Man: Eck McCaig just edged out John Lunny as probably the only two to get passmarks in this shambolic performance.

Action Details

Greenhills apply all of the first half pressure as Windlaw's dismal passing plumbs new depths. Constantly, Windlaw needlessly give it away while a depleted Greenhills side use the ball well and create a number of chances. From recollection, Lunny saves at least two one on one situations. Greenhills first goal comes from a close-in header from a corner that Windlaw don't deal with at all. Greenhills doubled their lead before half-time when Windlaw again needlessly concede possession just inside their own half. A ball played from wide to the edge of the Windlaw box is met superbly by the onrushing Greenhills player who half volleys a beauty into Lunny's top left hand corner. Windlaw are shocking and fail to register a shot on target or a spell of pressure on the Greenhills goal.

Half Time: Greenhills Dynamo 2 Windlaw 0

The second half is a fairly grim affair with Greenhills still looking the more likely. They go 3-0 in front when their right midfielder beats a couple of poor Windlaw challenges and blasts past an exposed Lunny from 15 yards. For the last 20 minutes Windlaw rallied briefly and had some pressure. With 10 minutes left, the energetic Eck McCaig got one back through a looping header from a free-kick that the keeper couldn't keep out. With 5 minutes left, Windlaw missed a penalty awarded after hand-ball in the Greenhills box. The keeper dived left to save from Kevin McCann as Greenhills played out time to record their victory.

Full Time: Greenhills Dynamo 3 Windlaw 1

Summing Up -The first 70 minutes of this are humiliating for a club like Windlaw. A late flurry almost unsettled Greenhills although this would have been unjust. Greenhills were far from their best but deserved their victory. Congratulations to them, although the unsporting celebrations of a small minority of their players leave a bitter taste. There's a way to win and a way to lose. It should be dealt with in the same manner
