Star Man: The spectator's for having to suffer this display of sheer incompetence from a gutless Windlaw side.
Action Details
Windlaw were pre-warned about the capabilities of Eddlewood, so we knew we had a game on our hands. Well, we managed to stay in the game until the first goal after 20 minutes. Cue the capitulation! It was a slightly fortunate goal with the ball heading past the post until a wicked deflection off Marty Doc sent it goalbound.
Windlaw's players simply collapsed and embarassed the club by recording their biggest ever defeat in any competition.
I won't go into details, but the score at half-time was 3-0, and the full-time score was 8-0. The pick of the Eddlewood bunch was the classic 2nd goal when they displayed a fine counter attacking move from a Windlaw corner. Within 3 passes, the Eddlewood striker was bearing down on goal and cooly slotted the ball under Lunny and into the back of the net. If ever you needed to see how to counter attack, that was it !
Congratulations Eddlewood, you are a fine side who will no doubt progress far in this competition, and we wish you well for the rest of your season.
Now for the Windlaw team.
I wish we could say it was one of those days, but I can't because it wasn't. We were pathetic, embarassing, shocking, appalling and disgraceful. Feel free to add any other adjective you can think of which sums up our performance.
Only two men came out of the game with passmarks, and you know who you are. Some of you were a disgrace to the jersey, and again, you know who you are.
I think every man who was there on Saturday needs to have a good look in the mirror and ask themselves if they can do more for the club. I do not expect anyone to say they can't.
I also think that we are no longer the team to beat, that no team should be scared of coming to Castlemilk now, because we're a spent force, we're nothing more than an average mid-table team now. We've already surrendered our League Cup, is it just a matter of time before we fall out of the league race too ? On recent performances, I'd say it was.
So if you're looking at this Blochairn, Vale Utd and Greenhills Dynamo, here is a message for you:- Don't worry about us, we are no threat to your Championship aspirations, you have nothing to fear from us.
This is not an over the top analysis of a match that went wrong, this is a reality check! If you want to get back to the level we were at a few seasons ago, when we won a treble followed by a double, then everything must change: - Attitude, committment, workrate, to name just a few. Otherwise we will remain a mid-table team for a long time.
Ask yourself this, is that what you really want ?
