Action Details
A tight game begins on a rather subdued note as both sides struggle to create any real chances. The Tynecastle defence sit deep in their own half and deny any space in behind them. Tynecastle begin to look more threatening though as their giant number 8 links up play well and in midfield they start to play in neat triangles and trouble Windlaw when breaking. On the half hour, Tynecastle deservedly go in front when a deep corner evades Lunny and is firmly headed home at the back post by the unmarked Tynecastle player. Just before half time, Tynecastle should have increased their lead as they broke down the right wing drawing both McInally and Wilson out of position and the tall Number 8 just failed to convert the cross into Lunny's net for a real let off for Windlaw.
Half Time: Windlaw 0 Tynecastle 1
Windlaw rally briefly before conceding a killer second goal. From a Windlaw throw just inside their own half, possession is lost and a long ball is played over McInally's head for the centre forward who had played excellently all day, to run onto before rounding Lunny and firing into the unguarded net despite McInally's desperate attempt to clear. At this stage, it looked as if Tynecastle could score at will and Windlaw's defence looked absolutely ragged. Lunny had a couple of good stops and Tynecastle rattled the crossbar also. Windlaw pulled one back when McCabe's well struck free-kick struck the post before Carey reacted well to nod in the rebound. The comeback was however shortlived as Windlaw's defensive shortcomings in dealing with the high ball where again exposed, and the Tynecastle centre forward flicked on a header for the Number 8 to latch onto and fire past Lunny.
Despite a late bombardment of the Tynecastle goal when the bar was struck, a header off the line, a penalty claim denied and a couple of excellent stops by the Tynecastle keeper, the well organised visitors held on for a deserved victory.
Full Time: Windlaw 1 Tynecastle 3
Summing Up -Pathetic, hopeless, garbage, shocking. Pick any one of these adjectives, multiply it by 3 and you'll be somewhere near describing this shambolic Windlaw performance. Tynecastle could barely believe how easily this victory was achieved and will rightly wonder how Windlaw had won all their league games until now. For Windlaw, the rot has well and truly set in. Vale Utd will be licking their lips in anticipation of meeting this Windlaw side.
