Action Details
After a bright start Windlaw go ahead in 15 minutes, Alan Nugent’s superb pass between two Tradeteam defenders is latched onto by Darren Campbell who coolly slides home. Minutes later, the home side equalise through a well struck shot through a ruck of bodies that flies into Lunny’s bottom right hand corner.
Windlaw then take command with two quick goals. The first is rammed home by Alan Nugent from the edge of the box after good link-up play involving Benny Carey and the same provider then knocks on a fine through ball for Darren Campbell who confidently ran through and angled home his shot for a fine finish.
Just before half time, Windlaw’s inability to keep the ball was again punished when loose play in midfield resulted in two slick passes opening the Windlaw defence up and the Tradeteam forward lashing past Lunny from 10 yards.
The second half was all Windlaw but the crucial fourth goal would not come despite some good chances and the unease grew. With around 12 minutes remaining Tradeteam equalised, when a long throw was allowed to bobble about the Windlaw box and a flicked shot saw the ball soar into the top right hand corner of the Windlaw net. No further scoring and no extra-time ensured a tense penalty shoot-out.
In penalties, Carey, McInally, Kerr and McCann all converted for Windlaw and Lunny saved two spot-kicks to finally break the home side’s resistance.Lunny’s first save was from the very top drawer and was worthy of winning any game.
Verdict: Windlaw’s failure to put the game to bed at 3-1 and 3-2 almost cost dearly. Losing goals when having possession is a worry at this stage before meeting any of the league’s big guns, who will punish this trait severely.
