Action Details
The visit of Windlaw's bitter rivals is always a game that is eagerly anticipated and always produces some controversial decisions and flashpoints, and this game was no different. Quality of football was low, goalmouth chances few and far between, but Windlaw walked away with the three points, which is all that matters at the end of the day.
Windlaw attacked the Regents Park goal right from the kick off with Kevin McCann forcing the keeper into a save with a decent chance in the first minute. From the resulting corner, Windlaw had a strong penalty claim turned down, where the defender clearly moved his arm towards the ball. No penalty said the referee.
Regents Park had a couple of decent chances in the first 10 minutes however goalkeeper John Lunny saved comfortably.
The decisive moment of the match arrived in the 27th minute. Bonnar split the defence open with a through ball for Eck McCaig who timed his run perfectly to beat the offside tap. Eck raced towards the penalty box before squaring the ball to Benny Carey for a 6 yard tap-in .It was a superb move by Windlaw, one worthy of winning any game. Regents Park protested furiously, claiming offside, but the ref was having none of it.
The only other action of note in the first half was a superb point blank save by Lunny. It was a truly magnificent save that maintained Windlaw's slender one goal advantage.
The second half was pretty poor. A shocking tackle on Gary Wilson saw the big man hobble off only for Razor to hobble back on and see out the remainder of the match. The big man was a target of physical and verbal abuse from the opposition, and even got called 'an old prick' at one stage. Wilson's years of experience led him to laugh all of this off.
In the 70th minute, Regents Park had a penalty claim turned down by the referee, however it seemed more to be ball to hand and the referee was right to turn down their appeals.
Soon after, Lunny made a fantastic save from a Regents Park free kick and also did enough to put off the opposing forward in the 82nd minute. The big man was in inspired form today. He was determined not to concede and he didn't as the game ended 1-0 to Windlaw.
A big victory in the quest to regain the title! This type of gritty performance will be needed throughout the season if Windlaw want to maintain their title challenge. Victory over Lochend next week would see us right back into the thick of things. Lets hope we keep this form going until the end of the season.
