An excellent afternoon for football on a pitch that had stood up well to the heavy rain in the days prior.
Windlaw made one enforced change with Zanda Dougall out through work commitments, Calum Granger came into central defence. Calderglen had just suffered a heavy 10-1 away defeat to East Kilbride United on Wednesday night in the group.

This time Windlaw made a fine start attacking virtually from kick-off and a good ball into the box was well dummied by Liam McGeachy to leave Greg Johnstone to stab home past Isaksen from only six yards in the opening minutes. Danny McKenna then got in on the act hammering home after another nice move to put Windlaw two up on ten minutes.

The home side kept battling though and always looked dangerous going forward. It was no surprise when they got one back after 20 minutes when they sprung the offside trap and a good cross from the right was finished neatly from 8 yards leaving Lunny helpless. Windlaw then regrouped and took a further grip on the game adding three more goals before half-time one was a fine McKenna free-kick from the edge of the box after Eck McCaig was upended by a last man which should have meant a red card for the Calderglen defender but 5-1 was a handsome half-time lead.

Half Time: Calderglen 1 - 5 Windlaw AFC

Initially, Windlaw started the second half well and were knocking the ball about with confidence. Three more goals were added as Danny McKenna joined Greg Johnstone in completing his hat-trick. With eight goals in the bank though more should have sought in a group where goal difference could play a part however Windlaw made the fatal mistake of putting the tools away too early. Calderglen seized upon this and came more into the game. They had one effort off the underside of the bar which looked as if it had bounced in then Lunny made an amazing save to somehow scoop a netbound header over the bar before they were finally rewarded with a late consolation after catching Windlaw leaving too many players upfield.

Full Time: Calderglen 2-8 Windlaw AFC

Verdict: A strange performance to judge. The game was won easily enough with some very good finishing but the foot was taken off the pedal far too early and this made life difficult for the subs coming on. Calderglen could have scored another couple which would have made it more uncomfortable.

Windlaw Star Man: Impossible to separate two men who got four goals apiece so Johnstone and McKenna share the award.
