A night of pouring rain on the all-weather pitch ensured the ball would zip around quickly. Windlaw kept the same starting eleven that won on Saturday with Scott Smith and new signing Chris Hepburn who was only cleared to play hours earlier replacing Mick Devaney and Chris Carr on the subs bench.

Windlaw started badly like Saturday and the passing and control were poor at times. Busby had a young energetic side and were troubling Windlaw’s midfield who never settled. Windlaw’s sloppiness was punished on 27 minutes when a cross from Busby’s left into the box wasn’t dealt with properly and Busby’s spare men at the back post had time to control and fire across John Lunny into the corner of the net. This slightly jolted Windlaw and Greg Johnstone almost found Liam Geachy for a header from close in but it was just too high. In the main Busby’s defenders were coping well with any high balls and Windlaw weren’t asking enough questions of them.

Half Time: Busby 1 - 0 Windlaw

Windlaw started the second half a bit better however Busby had a couple of great chances on the break with long balls troubling the Windlaw backline however on both occassions, the finishes were well wide and never troubled Lunny. Windlaw were now pressing hard for an equaliser though and the game was being played in the Busby half more and more. On 68 minutes the breakthrough came as Greg Johnstone found space just inside the box and he fired a right foot shot low past the keeper. The outlook of the game then changed as Windlaw dominated completely and hunted a winner. It came after persistent play down the right wing saw Eck McCaig dink a fine pass into Johnstone’s path and the big striker hit a magnificent shot past the keeper from 16 yards who barely saw it. The game was finally nailed down when Windlaw struck a third on 81 minutes. Greg Johnstone swept a fine ball out to Chris Hepburn on the left wing who had come on as a sub for his debut and he produced a fine run past three defenders before composing himself and smashing a left footed shot under the keeper to complete the victory.

Full Time: Busby 1 - 3 Windlaw

Verdict: Another strange start to the game was well recovered in the second half by a hungrier Windlaw side. After Windlaw equalised there was only going to be one winner as the young Busby side’s heads dropped.

Windlaw Star Man: Greg Johnstone takes the award for hitting two timely goals and maintaining his fine run of form. Word of praise too for Liam McGeachy who battled well on the left and also performed well in attack when he had to.
