Two changes for Windlaw from the last outing at Rannoch with Chris Hepburn and Greg Johnstone replacing Wullie Wilson and Benny Carey, and Carr slotting in at left back. The wind was horrendous and would clearly play a part in the game.

Starting with the wind at their back Busby dominated the opening minutes with some desperate defending keeping Windlaw level as they tried to adapt to the conditions. Gradually though, Windlaw got a foothold and were working Busby very hard all over the pitch making life difficult for them. Greg Johnstone headed over from a good position from a Hepburn corner. Tam Simpson and Eck McCaig were breaking things up well and it was from McCaig’s industry that Windlaw went in front. He collected in midfield and beat two players with good skill before curling in a shot from 20 yards that had Wright in trouble and held up slightly in the wind. As he back-tracked the ball hit the bar and as it came down, Greg Johnstone had followed it in and he had the simplest task to tap home from a couple of yards with the keeper grounded. The big striker added a second soon after when a Hepburn ball into the box appeared to be handled by the Busby defender. Ref Lowe appeared to be going to point to the spot but Johnstone hit a ferocious drive into the net from the edge of the box to put the issue beyond doubt anyway. Windlaw continued to work hard and John Lunny had only one noteworthy save low at his right hand post from a Torley left-footed shot.

Half Time: Windlaw AFC 2 - 0 Busby

Having fought so hard first half, Windlaw started the second a little sluggish and Busby looked threatening at times without creating clear cut chances. With the wind behind him though Lunny’s booming kick-outs were always going to be awkward for Busby’s defence and it was from one of these that Johnstone got his hat-trick. Number four was the pick of the game with Hepburn feeding Johnstone who played a delightful dinked ball over Busby’s weakening defence for Danny McKenna to latch onto and he cleverly lobbed Busby’s substitute goalkeeper for the 49th goal of his Windlaw career. Johnstone wasn’t finished yet though and he added his fourth and Windlaw’s fifth latching onto another Lunny clearance that was helped by the wind and powerfully heading in off the underside of the bar. He then had a hand in the sixth goal when he crossed for substitute Wullie Wilson to turn and score from inside the box after Wilson’s initial penalty claim was rejected by ref Lowe who had a fine game too. Windlaw passed up a good few more scoring opportunities to increase the victory margin and on another day would have scored more but were content with what they had.

Full Time: Windlaw AFC 6 - 0 Busby

Verdict: Windlaw Manager Billy Hepburn said of the victory "Good hard work from the players got us the result, we have to show the same effort every week." The win sets Windlaw up for next Saturdays Scottish Cup Round 2 tie against Caledonian League side Balmore at Barlia 2pm kick-off.

Windlaw Star Man: Loads of good performances with Eck McCaig and Tam Simpson in midfield putting in a lot of good work but with four goals and two assists who else but that man Greg Johnstone can take the award to continue his fine season so far.
