H-T: 0-2
Referee: Michael Murray

Only one change with Tam Simpson coming in at the back to replace Zanda Dougall who was on the bench, which also included new signing Liam McGeachy. Wullie Wilson had recovered sufficiently from his knock on Wednesday to start. The pitch was in reasonable nick on a cold and slightly windy afternoon at one of Scottish football’s now ghostly settings.

A fairly mundane start to the game and both keepers were quiet early on. Thirds seemed to be playing with just one main striker so the midfield areas were congested. Wide right though Simon Burns again looked dangerous in possession. Benny Carey got the opener on 17 minutes after a ball into the box was nicely teed up for him and he kept his shot low to beat young Gary Black in the Thirds goal. Eight minutes later the lead was doubled when Paul Humphreys smashed home an excellent shot into the bottom corner from 14 yards. Thirds never gave it up though and their long throws and set pieces were always a threat. A shot which took a big deflection off Eck McCaig required a miraculous mid-air save from John Lunny to touch it round the post when he seemed beaten. Thirds tried hard for a breakthrough before the break but Windlaw held firm.

Half Time: Third Lanark 0 - 2 Windlaw

Windlaw restarted a bit sloppy and on 57 minutes Thirds got a goal back. After a ball was headed away at the half-way line by McInally, Windlaw failed to react and the Thirds player raced onto his own through ball from his own half to lob past the advanced John Lunny into the net. This could have sparked a major revival but Windlaw quickly hit a third through Benny Carey from close range minutes later to quash the home sides hopes. Thereafter the goals flowed at regular intervals including three more from Paul Humphreys to give him a deserved hat-trick plus another from Eck McCaig who burst from midfield to net. Windlaw used all three subs with Danny McKenna replacing Bruce Tierney and Zanda Dougall replacing Tam Simpson, who enjoyed an excellent first start, and near the end young Liam McGeachy came on for his debut against his former club replacing Simon Burns.

Full Time: Third Lanark 1 - 7 Windlaw

Verdict: A very competent if unspectacular performance from Windlaw but exactly what was needed at this point of the season. They were in control for most parts and both strikers took their chances well which is reward for their recent hard work. A difficult day for a young Third Lanark side who have definite talent in their ranks.

Windlaw Star Man: Paul Humphreys four goal performance has to take the award. Some very tidy finishes among them.
