Another huge challenge after Saturday’s 5-2 thrshing by Cambuslang as promotion chasing St Pats visited Castlemilk. Two changes from Saturday’s side with Tam Simpson and Paul Humphreys coming in to replace Duncan McGregor and Colin Carmichael in a 4-4-2 formation.
Windlaw started reasonably well and got the opening goal in only 10 minutes when skipper McCaig, playing in an unfamiliar left-sided position, stroked home with the inside of his right foot past a slightly surprised Mulvenna for a shock lead. Amazingly though, this lasted under a minute when straight from kick-off St Pats waltzed through the middle of the Windlaw team before the striker got the break of the ball at the edge of the box and he advanced to slot past Lunny. This was the beginning of the end as the visitors slick passing and power really started to take over. Their trialist Number 6 looked a top player and was running the show. They then got a penalty which was dispatched and then a careless mistake from comfortable Windlaw possession saw a third goal gifted as the home side’s brittle confidence began to wilt similar to Saturday.
Half Time: Windlaw AFC 1 - 3 St Pats FP
With the next goal now crucial, Windlaw again gifted the ball away in their own half and a pass put the centre forward through on goal and McInally’s challenge was correctly adjudged to be a penalty by referee Jim Ritchie. Lunny did well to save the first shot but the taker followed up to score from the rebound for a 4-1 lead. It was now game over and damage limitation as St Pats dominated. Four more goals were added by the visitors through more ridiculous defending and to add to Windlaw’s woes, sub Scott McKellar who had came on for Paul Humphreys after an injury lay-off had to be replaced after only minutes on the pitch after his hamstring went. He was replaced by Bruce Tierney. Near the end Windlaw got two penalties which Wullie Wilson netted as usual and on the second penalty St Pats had a man sent off for a second bookable offence. It was to be the only real bad point of the night for them
Full Time: Windlaw AFC 3 - 8 St Pats FP
Verdict: One of the club’s darkest hours and biggest ever beatings, the worst ever at home. No point in admitting it was anything other than a thrashing. You could say St Pats were in a different league. |
