DISMAL DRAW DAMAGES PROMOTION HOPES

An unchanged Windlaw side from Saturday’s 7-1 win at Third Lanark unsurprisingly. The pitch was very heavy and pudding like in some areas probably just and no more being deemed as ‘playable’.

Windlaw had a dreadful start and looked ragged early on. The home side were making the running and John Lunny had to make two fine low saves continuing his fine recent form. Windlaw were creating little although Eck McCaig sidefooted just a couple of yards wide after one rare well built up attack. With the pitch cutting up and worsening some of the tackles were becoming fiercer and tempers were becoming frayed at times. However despite Rannoch enjoying the best of the half, they failed to turn it into goals.

Half Time: Rannoch 0 Windlaw 0

Windlaw improved slightly second half and tried to take the game to the home side. Rannoch dropped deep though ensuring there was little or no room behind their back line who were very well organised. Simon Burns continually tried to make the running down the right but the persistant fouling on him was never punished. Even getting crosses in was difficult given the state of the pitch at times. Rannoch were probably getting more room going forward as Windlaw began to over-commit at times to try and get the elusive goal. Danny McKenna replaced Bruce Tierney to try and create more openings. The passing and control was poor though most times and it was becoming evident that one goal would have won this. Near the end John Lunny had to produce two fine saves to preserve the scoreline. Tam Simpson hit the side- netting with a late header and as Eck McCaig was put through, a superb challenge from a Rannoch defender robbed him of the chance to shoot in the dying minutes.

Full Time: Rannoch 0 Windlaw 0

Summing-Up: A very poor game of football which Windlaw could yet rue. They were dreadful and never done enough to win this game. Rannoch had the better chances and will feel they should have won. On this form and on such a pitch, they may yet make life difficult for opposing teams.

Star Man - Tam Simpson again had a
fine game at the back but it was
undoubtedly John Lunny’s saves which earned Windlaw a point from this game.
