Very decent weather conditions for this game and a pitch which was massive in length although slightly heavy underfoot. Changes from Wednesday’s night’s defeat to Alba included Chris Kerr in for Wullie Thornton in defence with Wullie Wilson replacing the ill Kevin McCann. Stuart Lunny replaced Thomas Taylor in midfield while David McGinlay was on the bench for the first time this season after suspension.

A very tight opening and both sides seemed cagey early on with little goalmouth action. Midway through the half Windlaw took the lead when a James Fitzpatrick free-kick from the right was misjudged by the Rolls Royce keeper and Kevin Black rose well at the back post to power home a header for his second goal in two games. This buoyed the visitors and they began to dominate.
Rolls Royce were getting few sniffs at goal.

That man Fitzpatrick doubled Windlaw’s lead on 40 minutes when he powered through two challenges at the edge of the box and curled a fine finish into the keeper’s right hand corner.

Half Time: Rolls Royce EK 0 Windlaw 2

After orders to keep things tight,Windlaw gifted Rolls Royce a way back in on 48 minutes. Possession was lost in midfield and the ball shifted through to Rolls Royce left hand side where James McTaggart cut in and fired a low shot under John Lunny to give them a lifeline. This should have triggered panic in the Windlaw ranks but they soon recovered and stroked the ball around with composure at times prompting various openings.

Duncan McGregor twice came close from headers while Wullie Thornton came on and did a fine defensive job in place of Chris Kerr. Davie McGinlay also replaced Benny Carey and looked very sharp without getting any clear cut chances.

Rolls Royce missed one good late chance when a ball across the Windlaw box was sclaffed into Lunny’s grateful arms but the away win was well merited without dispute.

Full Time: Rolls Royce EK 1 Windlaw 2

Summing-Up: Much improved showing from a Windlaw side still searching for form. This victory should have been more convincing as they dominated the entire second half without scoring a killer third goal. The shape and quality of defending were much better.

Star Man- James Fitzpatrick just edged out a number of candidates including Zanda Dougall, Stuart Lunny, Eck McCaig and Kevin Black. Fitzy got through a power of work and dictated the style and tempo of our play. His goal was also top notch.
