Another three changes from Monday’s fatal defeat at Ashvale with Chris Kerr, Colin Carmichael and Thomas Taylor coming in to replace Bruce Tierney, Kevin McCann and Liam McGeachy. The pitch was in fantastic nick on a perfect spring evening for football.
Windlaw started reasonably decent and tried to press to conquer the home side’s passing game. It was infact from a Windlaw attack that Drum took the lead when a superb break down their right wing saw three great passes and an inch perfect cross which their forward blasted past Lunny with sheer venom. This dispirited the visitors and ten minutes later a second was added when McInally badly misjudged a long through ball and the forward ran on to crash another emphatic finish high past Lunny. Windlaw managed to survive without further damage until the break but the home side were dominant.
Half Time: Drumchapel Utd 2 - 0 Windlaw
Drum continued to pass confidently in the second half and each player looked comfortable on the ball but Windlaw didn’t buckle and hoped that sneaking a goal back would bring them back into it but eventually a third arrived after another excellent finish. Liam McGeachy had replaced Benny Carey and was causing some problems for Drum’s defence. He had a late goal chalked off for offside before Drum added a fourth in the last minute after another Windlaw move broke down at the edge of the Drum box, the ball was fired forward and the substitute shot past Lunny from the edge of the box to maintain their flawless league record.
Full Time: Drumchapel Utd 4 - 0 Windlaw
Verdict: Drumchapel showed what a class side they are and their pass and move philosophy was superb. On this type of showing in two years time, the Division One title could well be theirs. Windlaw tried hard to compete well but were simply beaten by a far better side on the night. The quality on show in the division this year has made it very difficult. |
Windlaw Star Man: Liam McGeachy showed up very well coming on as a sub and showed he was up to the challenge. |
