Huge changes from the last outing at Cambuslang with the entire back four of Kerr, Tierney, Wilson and Zanda Dougall all unavailable for various reasons while young Duncan McGregor was also missing. Paul McInally was also only fit enough for the bench which meant fielding a team at all was difficult. Trialist Simon Burns came in at right back and the central defence contained Shug Neeson and Colin Carmichael both of whom were starting their first game of the season. Paul Humphreys and Benny Carey were up top. The dry weather this week meant the pitch was in a semi decent condition although the wind was picking up as the afternoon progressed.

The game started poorly with misplaced passes and poor control the order of the day. It never really got much better if truth be told. Windlaw’s hastily convened defence had a fragile look about it and there were close calls or misunderstandings a few times before Calderglen took full advantage on 23 minutes. A long high ball caused mayhem with nobody taking control and the forward nipped in and took advantage to give the visitors probably a deserved lead. Danny McKenna missed a good chance to equalise soon after but he blazed his shot wide with only the keeper to beat.

Half Time: Windlaw AFC 0-1 Calderglen

Both sides looked hungry for the next goal with Windlaw eager to get back in. The ball wasn’t sticking up front though and too many other long clearances were being mopped up by Calderglen’s defence as the wind started carrying the ball through. Eventually the visitors doubled their lead after some good play by one of their quick young forwards made the chance.

Windlaw refused to give up though and got one back in peculiar circumstances. Colin Carmichael flighted a free-kick into the Calderglen box from just inside their half and the kick caused mayhem with everyone missing it including the keeper and it bounced into the corner of the net.

The comeback was short-lived though as Windlaw’s defence which appeared to be pushing forward too much got caught out again and the third was rammed home from close range despite Lunny saving the initial attempt. Windlaw kept going but Calderglen’s keeper looked pretty safe throughout and he dealt with a few good long range efforts with confidence to ensure his side got the victory.

Full Time: Windlaw AFC 1-3 Calderglen

Verdict: - Another very flat showing from a patched up Windlaw side completely devoid of confidence. Just too many players were missing defensively and on top of that probably seven or eight players had stinkers. Adding that up a defeat was the only logistical conclusion to a Calderglen side who were reasonable but no more.

Windlaw Star Man: John Lunny probably emerged with most credit for some good saves while Simon Burns performed very well at right back too.
