Three changes with Thomas Taylor and Zanda Dougall unavailable, Wullie Wilson, Chris Kerr and Paul Humphreys came in with Allan Dougall on the bench. Windlaw had only two subs available with McCann and McKellar injured and McGregor unavailable through work commitments. The dry days all week had kept the pitch playable although the central area again was pretty bad in one particularly part.

Another decent start from Windlaw and Chris Kerr put the home side in front in only 11 minutes. Danny McKenna swung in an excellent low corner from Windlaw’s right and Paul McInally met it first with the keeper Meggs saving on the line however he couldn’t hold it and Chris Kerr following up slid it home from only yards out. This should have settled them but Busby were never out of the game and from a Busby corner, Lunny had to make a brilliant stop on the line from an onrushing Busby player trying to bundle it in. Both sides were playing long balls and trying to get support forward to their strikers. It was pretty even. The visitors equalised on 34 minutes. Windlaw conceded a poor free-kick only 22 yards out but Lunny again produced one of the stops of the season flying to his right and somehow touched the netbound shot just round the post. From the resultant corner though, the ball reached the back post area and was prodded home off the underside of the bar. Things remained level until the break.

Half Time: Windlaw 1 - 1 Busby

Another even period after the break with both sides searching for the lead. When Windlaw finally got it in 67 minutes it was a pivotal moment. As a Busby defender attempted a headed passback to Meggs, he got it a little short and Eck McCaig was on to it. Never one to give anything up, he successfully challenged Meggs and stumbled to his feet retaining the ball but before he could tap it in, Busby’s Mellis crudely took him out and the outcome was inevitable. Ref Gary Stephen had to award a penalty and produce the red card with Mellis the last man. Wullie Wilson stepped up and dispatched the kick however ref Stephen decided Windlaw encroached and ordered a retake. Wilson stayed composed though and although the second kick was less well hit and near Meggs, it still found the net. Against 10 men, Windlaw were still a bit worried looking at times and Busby never gave in. Trialist Tam Simpson then replaced Paul Humphreys. Benny Carey provided relief though with the third goal on 73 minutes. He rolled his marker nicely in the box and spun and beat Meggs from 10 yards. It was his last contribution before being replaced by Allan Dougall. The third goal gave some respite although Lunny made another excellent late save when McInally’s attempted close range clearance away from Busby’s forward was heading into his own net before Lunny dived low to block it. The rest of the game was seen out in reasonable comfort.

Full Time: Windlaw 3 - 1 Busby

Verdict: Another hard battle at Maggies which Windlaw did well to overcome. Good football was a rarity but the boys dug in well and Eck McCaig’s winning of the penalty was the decisive moment of the match. He showed great commitment in chasing a lost cause and got his team a big reward. With the league campaign now only at the half way stage and half of the fixtures to be played in April, it's impossible to predict just how teams will deal with the congestion ahead. It could yet be a survival of the fittest.

Windlaw Star Man: Veteran sweeper Paul McInally looks to have fully overcome his injury and looked back to his best in a display packed with experience and maturity.
