An unchanged Windlaw side faced up to Division Two side Bishopton who look strong favourites to qualify from this group. The pitch was in decent nick though a strong wind blew towards the Birgidale Road end where Windlaw kicked towards in the first half.

Windlaw began well and were knocking the ball around well and pressurising the visitors. In only eight minutes Kevin Black struck his third goal of the season from close range after good build up play. Bishopton couldn’t breach a strong Windlaw rearguard and a very effective long throw into the Windlaw box looked their biggest threat although Windlaw were coping well with them. James Fitzpatrick picked up Windlaw’s first caution of the season when he was very unlucky after taking plenty of the ball in a midfield tackle. A poor challenge on Eck McCaig saw a similar punishment and both sides were fully committed. Windlaw were well in charge though and could have been further ahead at the break such was their domination.

Half Time: Windlaw 1 Bishopton 0

Kicking against the wind, Windlaw made a fine start to the second half and went two up on 48 minutes. A Wullie Wilson free kick caused consternation in Bishopton’s penalty box and eventually Eck McCaig slammed home from close range. Duncan McGregor then limped off to be replaced by David McGinlay. The second half was more even but Windlaw continued to defend well. On 70 minutes, a very soft free kick award against Chris Kerr was fully punished when Bishopton fired home a brilliant free-kick past John Lunny from 25 yards. This gave Bishopton renewed hope and they began to dominate and had a few close efforts on goal and clipped the bar at one point. Windlaw held on though for a deserved victory.

Full Time: Windlaw 2 Bishopton 1

Summing-Up: Another improved showing from the team.Defensively things are looking better and the confidence is starting to spread ahead of the tough league challenge that lies ahead.Credit to Bishopton who were a strong side who should do well this season.

Star Man- Zanda Dougall won this contest on a day when Windlaw had no poor performers. The big man was dominant throughout and hardly missed a header all day.
