Sinclair moves in for the ballMore changes from last week, John Lunny was injured and Kevin McCann went from central defence to deputise for him. Kevin Black was ill and missed out and Zanda Dougall was missing through work commitments. In came Chris Kerr and Bruce Tierney into a back three alongside Colin Sinclair who also came back. Duncan McGregor played wide left of a middle five.

Alba had the look of a team hastily thrown together on a cold winters afternoon in Glasgow’s West End. The pitch was decent but a bit heavy underfoot.

The Windlaw bench comprised of Wilson, McInally, Lunny, Carey and Carmichael with most of them carrying knocks of varying degrees.

Windlaw made an excellent start and forced a corner inside two minutes. Danny McKenna hit a fine inswinger which Colin Sinclair glanced on near the front post and as the ball bounced Eck McCaig stooped to head high into the net from 5 yards to make it a dream start.
Windlaw attack from corner

Windlaw looked good and were passing well in most areas. Allan Dougall almost made it two when he was played in on the keeper making a good run into the box but as Paterson dived to close the angle, Dougall’s attempt to clip it past him screwed just wide of the post.
The second did come on 17 minutes though and again McKenna was the architect. This time he latched onto an excellent pass inside the Alba box and his well struck shot was parried by Paterson but only to the feet of Davie McGinlay and the big striker gleefully rammed home his first of the season from close range.

Windlaw were completely dominant although Alba never gave up and some good defending was required at times to keep them at bay. Just before the break Danny McKenna should have made it three when Davie McGinlay’s pass played him in on Paterson but he misjudged Paterson’s position and instead shot tamely at the keeper from 10 yards out.

McGinlay scores thirdWindlaw again started well and the third and decisive goal arrived just three minutes after the break. As Alba had a corner Chris Kerr thumped a decisive clearance 50 yards from his box landing in the Alba half. They had wrongly stepped up to play offside and McKenna was again in the clear down the right wing. He took it on into the box and unselfishly squared it across the six yard box to Davie McGinlay who had an easy tap-in.

Chances continued to flow. Duncan McGregor missed a couple of good chances and Thomas Taylor blasted over when he should have scored. On 64 minutes James Fitzpatrick powered home an excellent header from a corner for his third goal of the season.

On 79 minutes number five duly arrived when Allan Dougall’s good work down the right and excellent cross gave McGregor a tap-in finish. Straight from kick-off sloppy defending allowed Alba to scramble home a consolation after McCann had wandered too far off his line and on 88 minutes Alba got a second when one of their players rode three Windlaw tackles to net an opportunistic strike by which time Windlaw had prematurely put the tools away for the day.

Kevin McCannSumming-Up: Overall a comfortable afternoon for a Windlaw side who coped well with disruption to the side. Kevin McCann did well standing in for John Lunny and the newly formed defence coped well against the strongest part of Alba’s side. For an hour, Windlaw did really well and were clear winners by that time. A little sloppiness crept in near the end and more goals should have been scored but any away win is good and the team continue to show a good attitude.

Alec McCaigStar Man- Eck McCaig led his side outstandingly well. He started leading by example by scoring in 2 minutes and in the final minute was still chasing everything down. He showed great effort and commitment. Good shows also by Bruce Tierney, Chris Kerr and Thomas Taylor with Davie McGinlay’s brace noteworthy.
