Legends - Stevie Thomson

Stevie ThomsonFirst up in this new and innovating section of the site is a feature on Windlaw's current manager and all time second top goalscorer,Stevie Thomson.

The inclusion of Stevie may come as a shock to the present generation of Windlaw player who never actually lined up beside Stevie most weeks, indeed, only Shug Neeson and Paul McInally(how embarrassing for them) will truly appreciate what an intelligent and clinical striker he was.

Stevie had great upper body strength and was superb at dropping off and linking with the midfield. It was in the box though that he did the real damage. He had great awareness of where a chance might fall and he was also excellent at attacking the front post to attack crosses. It actually is the case, that if he played in the current Windlaw set-up, he would have had a feast and been not only the club's top scorer, but also the league's.

Unfortunately for him,as Stevie finished playing the trophies started rolling in.By then however,he was playing a different role as the club's manager, where he continues today.

The website had some questions for the gaffer to get a little insight into how he became a Windlaw legend.

Can you remember how you first got involved in playing for the team?

Because Danny Dooley (my brother-in-law) asked an ageing striker to help him out.

Who were your strike partners and who was the best to play alongside?

Brian Kerr, Paul Waters(Wabbs) and Mick O'Brien. Big Mick was the best to play alongside as it was like playing beside Pierre Van Hooijdonk!

What was the best Windlaw game you played in?

Windlaw 4 Lorne Star 2 (Strathclyde Cup). I scored a cheeky wee double.

Would you say the standard of football in the league has risen from when you played?

Definitely.

Excluding yourself, who is your all-time greatest Windlaw eleven, in any formation?

The treble winning team of season 2002-03.

Many thanks to Stevie for those in depth answers and for kicking off this section. It's always good to keep the boss onside by making him a legend!
