Windlaw dropped their first points of the season after a goalless draw at Calderglen. The conditions were far from ideal as the pitch cut up very quickly and it soon became a battle rather than a football match. Windlaw had several decent chances and also had one goal wrongly ruled out for offside, however they did have a lucky escape as John Lunny pulled off an outstanding save right at the death, tipping a close range header onto the bar, to come away with a point. Full details to follow.
A double apiece for Greg Johnstone and Eck McCaig plus strikes from Danny McKenna and Liam McGeachy were enough to hold off Muirend’s stubborn challenge at Barlia on Saturday. The win keeps Billy Hepburn’s men top of a tight division for now but Muirend made it difficult and the third goal after half-time was all important. The team now move onto another very difficult away fixture with a trip to Lochwinnoch to take on Calderglen. In other news, the club are happy to announce that this year’s Player Of The Year Dance will take place on Saturday June 5 at Goals Complex in Shawlands. A DJ will provide the entertainment and as usual a healthy raffle will be on offer. Tickets priced £4 will be available soon.
Windlaw moved to the top of the table today after a narrow 2-1 victory over Glasgow Uni. Greg Johnstone put the visitors ahead but Uni drew level after a Windlaw mistake. Greg Johnstone was played in by Danny McKenna and the prolific front man converted and sent Windlaw to the top of the table.
An awful downfall of snow brought an abrupt end to proceedings as Windlaw were dominating the league leaders at Barlia. Two early Greg Johnstone strikes had the home side in the box seat but referee Keegan had no option but to call a halt as the fallen snow started to make conditions impossible. It's a big frustration to Windlaw in their bid to top the table but the team have enjoyed a very decent end to the year under the management team of Billy Hepburn, Benny Carey and Colin Carmichael. The club would like to put on record their thanks to Drew and Jimmy the staff at Barlia today for their efforts in getting the pitch playable on Saturday morning, it's a pity their toil was in vein.
The club would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2010.
The team will enjoy their festive night out in Shawlands on Saturday night before returning to training on Tuesday December 29th indoor at Toryglen Football Centre from 7-9pm then back to league action on Saturday January the 9th.
A second half deluge of goals saw Windlaw overcome a stubborn Muirend side at Barlia today. Despite being the better side first half, Windlaw could only manage a 2-1 half-time lead. The visitors equalised early in the second half but then five further goals were added to secure the victory. Ian Baird with one, Danny McKenna with two and Greg Johnstone with another four goal haul completed the scoring. Special mention for Greg Johnstone whose fourth goal was his thirtieth goal already of a fantastic season. He becomes the first player since the legendary Scotty Williamson to emulate this feat. Full Match Report to follow.

Everyone at the club would like to send their deepest condolences to the entire Dougall family after Barry sadly lost his fight against cancer in the early hours of Saturday morning aged only 38. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet, Barry played for the club in the late 1990's and of course his brother Zanda remains with the club as one of our longest serving players. A minutes silence was observed in Barry's honour prior to Saturday's game with Bannockburn. The funeral will take place this Saturday at 10am at St Cadocs Church in Cambuslang and many past and present players will attend. At a time like this football pales into insignificance and the club requested that Saturday's away game at Rannoch be postponed. We would like to put on record our thanks to Paul Gunn, the league's match secretary and to the players and officials of Rannoch AFC for kindly agreeing to this request. Their understanding is much appreciated at a time when support for the Dougall family is far more important than anything else. Barry Dougall, a total gentleman, rest in peace.
Windlaw crashed out of the West of Scotland Cup to holders Bannockburn after a spirited display at barlia. Windlaw had 2 great chances in the first ten minutes but the Bannockburn goalkeeper pulled out top drawer saves to keep it 0-0. The defending champions showed their class with 2 top class goals on 10 and 35 minutes. The goal of the game came on 60 minutes though when the move was started and finished off with only 3 players and 3 passes. The home side had Scott Robertson sent off for a lunging tackle. Match report here.
Not content with bagging his 26th goal of the season on Saturday, Greg Johnstone then proceeded to win the £450 tote prize on Saturday night ending a long run of rollovers. Congratulations again to ‘that man’. The players have now received their new training kits and are reminded that these must be worn each week. Our Match Reports each week are now available to read in The Rutherglen Reformer, we thank them for making this facility available. You can catch the Reformer also online at www.rutherglenreformer.co.uk/. Saturday sees us make the short trip down the road for a very tough league away game against Muirend at Bogton Pitches kick-off is at 2pm.
Windlaw racked up the biggest ever win in our 18 year history at the expense of Ardeer from the Ayrshire League. Five more goals from Greg Johnstone, four from Danny McKenna, three from Chris Hepburn plus an og made up the scoring and that was despite a poor period after half-time but the win puts us into the third round draw for the first time ever. Full Match Report to follow. Next up is the league again and the desperate need for points when we travel to East Kilbride to take on Rolls Royce EK.
Windlaw Team: Lunny, McInally, Carr, Wilson, McCann (Devaney), Taylor, McCaig (Baird), McGeachy (Carmichael), Hepburn, McKenna, Johnstone
A late Eck McCaig equaliser earned Windlaw a second chance to claim Balmore's scalp in the Scottish Cup 2nd round. Balmore went in 2-1 up at half-time, courtesy of a sensational free kick on 35 mins. Danny McKenna had earlier notched his 50th Windlaw goal when he took advantage of a Balmore defensive balls-up. In the second half, Windlaw applied heavy pressure on the visitors but couldn't take advantage of the numerous chances presented to them. With the game stretched and Windlaw looking for an equaliser, Balmore took advantage of the space and went 3-1 up. Game over? Not by a long shot! Windlaw battled away and Liam McGeachy fired a brilliant long range effort to pull the deficit back to one goal. The home side had the visitors camped in their own box and deservedly equalised when Eck McCaig headed Kevin McCann's long throw in over the keeper and into the net.
